Based in Washington DC and founded in 2012 by composer and conductor Robert A. Baker, Newprism Ensemble performs music since 1900, with an emphasis on post-tonal, avant-garde, and serial- and spectral-inspired works.
Our core ensemble is composed of flute, clarinet, piano, percussion, violin, and cello, and all players are professional performers from the DC / Baltimore area. Additional instrumentation is sometimes included for larger programs, expanding the group at times to up to nearly a dozen players.
